Healing the Sick

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this module is for students to learn about the love and power of the Lord Jesus Christ through His miracles. This lesson will focus on understanding how Christ our God is the true physician of our souls and bodies.

INTRODUCTION & HOOK - 5 Minutes

Cinnamon Example:

Materials:

  • 1 clear glass container
  • Cinnamon
  • Water
  • Dish soap

I want to show you an example of what happens when Jesus heals us from any sickness (pull out the container and fill with water, start to drizzle cinnamon until all the water is covered).

This cinnamon represents the sin and sickness in our life

(rub your two fingers together with dish soap, and touch the cinnamon in a any spot)

When God touches our sickness, we are healed. When we ask God to heal us, He does. Just like this cinnamon, the sickness doesn't just go away for the moment when Jesus heals us, but it goes away for good.

Ask the children: "Have you ever seen anyone who is sick or felt sad? How did that make you feel?"

After sin entered the world through Adam and Eve, sickness, sadness and death entered our world as well.

Christ came to give us the good news that He can heal this broken world and defeat all the imperfections like sickness, sadness and even death. He came to the world to tell us that He is with us in our sickness and sadness.

God wanted us to know that as long as we turn to Him, He will strengthen us during this time of sadness or physical pain.

HOLY SCRIPTURE - 5 Minutes

Memory Verse

"And as many as touched Him were made well" Mark 6:56

  • Mk 5:25-34; Mt 9:20-22; Lk 8:43-48

CONTENT (KEY POINTS) - 10 Minutes

Christ healed hundreds if not thousands of people while He was on earth. The Gospels teach us that He healed every type of disease not only physically but emotionally and of course spiritually.

Woman with the issue of blood

  • Once, there was a woman who was bleeding for a very long time, 12 years
  • When she heard that Jesus was coming, she moved in the crowd to see him. She said "If only i may touch His clothes, I shall be made well".
  • Imagine, this one person needed God's healing from their sickness, and their faith in God was so strong, that they knew that they didn't even need God to focus only on them, but just touch His clothes among hundreds of people around Him,and that would be enough to be healed.
  • We just need to accept His healing, ask Him, touch even His clothes "Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction"
  • He healed the lepers and helped heal emotional pain from people that didn't really know Him or follow His teachings. Do you not think that He will not heal His children who believe in Him?
  • When people were gathering around and watching Jesus heal those who were sick, God was using these people's sickness as an example of the power of God, and people started believing in Him.

DISCUSSION (Challenge) - 10 Minutes

  • Why did our Lord perform healing miracles? (Because of His love and compassion, to show the faith of those whom He healed, to show His power over physical and spiritual sickness)

His will is for our salvation and His divine plan allows us to come closer to Him through any hard times or sicknesses. Knowing that He can overcome it if it is His will, strengthens us and gives us joy that it is for our spiritual benefit.

LIFE APPLICATION (Action) - 5 Minutes

  • When we see someone sick, our first reaction is to pray for that person, to ask God to heal and strengthen them from their sickness.
  • Our loved one's sickness brought us closer to God through our prayers for them and that is what He wants. He wants us to always communicate with Him, whether it is prayers for ourselves or prayers for others.
  • So God not only uses our happiness to praise Him, but in sickness too. When we are the most broken, is when God fills the cracks and heals us or our family members to get closer to Him.

ACTIVITY - 10 Minutes

"Jesus Heals the Blind" Craft

  • Materials:
    • 1 paper plate,
    • Crayons or markers,
    • (1) 1"x11" white computer paper strip
    • scissors
  • Have the children draw a face on the inside of the paper plate, BUT DO NOT DRAW THE EYES.
  • Parallel to where the eyes should be, cut a slit on each side (see video for demo)
  • Insert the strip of paper through the slit from right to left, just enough to get the paper through the slit.
  • Draw two curved lines to look like closed eyelids.
  • Pull the strip, from the left, until the eyes are no longer visible, and draw a brown mud stain. This can be a brown rectangle or a large brown circle.
  • Pull the strip, from the left, until the brown stain is not visible, then draw two eyes that are wide open.
  • So when they pull the strip to the left, it tells the miracle of Jesus healing the blind man. From blind, to the mud covering his eyes, to his eye being wide open and he can see after Jesus told him to go wash the mud off.

PARENTS CORNER/HOMEWORK

  • Cut (7) small pieces of paper, write one name of a person that is not feeling well and can use someone to pray for them. Close these small pieces of paper and put them in a cup. Every night with your child's evening prayers, before the sleep, let them pull a name and have them dedicate their evening prayer to the person they chose for the night.
