Multiplying Food

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this module is for students to learn about the love and power of the Lord Jesus Christ through His miracles. This lesson will focus on understanding how Christ our God is with us in everything that we do.

INTRODUCTION & HOOK - 5 Minutes

We saw in the past two weeks that Christ has the power over sickness and death. Now that we have the trust that He can overcome our weakness and the power to regenerate our life, we are ready to see His work with us and in us, in our daily life.

"Making the Impossible, Possible" -- Hershey Bar Example:

Materials:

  • 1 regular size Hershey Bar
  • 1 knife
  • 1 paper towel

Unwrap the Hershey Bar, place it on the paper towel

Cut the Hershey bar diagonally (as in the picture), and then again on the long side

Do you think that God can make the impossible, possible?

Do you believe that He can fulfill our physical and spiritual needs?

Now let me ask you, do you see this candy bar? I cut it into different slices. Do you think we can put it back together in a way that we make the candy into a full rectangle shape, but have one piece left for me to eat?

(have them tell you how to try to put it together) -- see the correct way in the video demo below

When you heard what I was asking you, you probably thought that was impossible, but somehow it worked and I got an extra piece of candy bar to eat as an extra bonus.

HOLY SCRIPTURE - 5 Minutes

Memory Verse

"Jesus said...'I am the bread of life'" John 6:35

Feeding the Five Thousand - Matt 14:13-21, Mark 6:31-44, Luke 9:12-17, John 6:1-14

CONTENT (KEY POINTS) - 15 Minutes

Christ used the little to make much:

  • Our Lord Jesus Christ, had compassion for His people. Do you know what compassion means?
  • Compassion means showing kindness to others when they need your help.
  • Jesus' followers were with Him the whole day. They followed Him and listened to His teachings. So when it became evening, they were naturally hungry.
  • So Jesus felt compassion towards them and wanted to feed the people. ALL 5000 OF THEM
  • Imagine when Jesus tells the disciples after a long day, to feed all 5000 people. How do you think that made them feel? (tired, helpless, overwhelmed)
  • Jesus fed 5000 starving people with someone's lunch that they brought for themselves. This lunch only had 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread. How can Jesus feed 5000 people with just these lunch items? Seems pretty impossible if you ask me But not for Jesus
  • However, they gave Him all that they had found and Jesus blessed it. So he didn't just fulfill the need of their hunger, but also gave them beyond what they needed and the people were full.
  • And, not only did all the people eat and get full, but there were also twelve baskets filled with the leftover food All of this from 5 loaves of bread and two fish - with God, nothing is impossible.

DISCUSSION (Challenge) - 10 Minutes

Can you think of examples in your life where God blessed your effort when you didn't think it was good enough? Or were able to do something that you didn't think you could do?

LIFE APPLICATION (Action) - 5 Minutes

If you see a classmate or someone not having any food at lunch, share what you have. Have compassion on those who are in need. Explain that it is important to always put your best effort in what you do and God will bless it, even if it is not much or you don't think it's enough.
