OBJECTIVE

The objective of the Saints Module in first grade is to teach students about saints that were heroic. While all saints were heroic in nature, these specific saints demonstrate particular bravery through their trials and tribulations.

INSTRUCTIONS/IDEAS

  • The servant can play a game with the children to see who remembers the lessons. The servant may bring pictures/icons of St. Mina, St. Marina, St. Maurice, and St. Barbara and place them in any open area. The servant will then read a question about any of the saints, and whoever finds the picture, of the correct saint, first will get a point. Continue putting the pictures/icons in different places until the end of the game.
    • Example Questions:
      • Which saint left his position as governor to worship Christ?
      • Which saint was able to fight the devil?
      • Which saint was a part of the Theban Legion?
      • Which saints went to jail and got martyred for their faith?
  • The servant can also teach a spiritual song or hymn about one or all of these Saints to help teach the lessons. Some children learn stories better when they can sing it because they remember it more (Example of Hymns/Spiritual songs: The doxologies for any of the saints or Spiritual song "In one of my dreams").
  • The servant can also have each child share what they have learned from each lesson and tell us how they can be like these Saints (how to apply the lesson to our everyday lives).
