Capstone

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this module is to understand the various symbols of the story of our salvation. Each lesson in this module teaches our children how to identify the symbols of salvation in the Old Testament and how Christ fulfilled each one.

INSTRUCTIONS/IDEAS

In these capstone activities, students will summarize all of the Old Testament symbols of salvation they have learned about over the course of this module.

Option 1: Bean Bag/Ball Toss

Materials:

  • 14 bean bags or balls
  • 7 boxes or buckets

On the 14 bean bags or balls, write the following symbols/figures from the Old Testament (one per bag/ball):

  • Noah, Ark, Wood of the Ark, Flood, Dove, Bronze Serpent, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Passover Lamb, Crossing Red Sea, Manna, Promised Land

On the 7 boxes, write what each of the symbols represent (one per box/bucket):

  • Christ, Church, Cross, Baptism, Holy Spirit, Holy Communion, Heaven

Line the 7 boxes up in a row and mark a central place for the students to stand. Have the students take turns tossing each bean bag into the bucket/box corresponding to what the symbol represents. Students can alternate one by one, or each student can have a chance at tossing all of the bean bags based on time/class size.

Option 2: Cut and Paste Activity Sheet

Print the attached worksheet and have each student color and cut and paste each symbol beside what it represents.
