Old Testament Module

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this module is to introduce one of the major Fathers in the Old Testament to the 2nd graders. The 2nd graders will learn about the early life of Moses and how God chose him to lead His people out of the bondage & captivity in Egypt, how he carried God's commandments to deliver the plagues to the Pharaoh and the Egyptian people. The children will also learn about Daniel in the Lion's den, the courageous young boy, and Jonah the prophet and how he led the Ninevites to repentance.

TOPICS BY WEEK

Please read through all of the lessons in this module in preparation for each lesson.

  • Week 1: The children will learn about the birth of Moses and the Lord's protection of him, through birth and into his life in the desert. His transformation into the man of God to start his mission to deliver the Israelites.
  • Week 2: Moses in Egypt and implementing God's ten plagues to deliver God's people
  • Week 3: Daniel in the Lion's Den, the courage of the young boy to obey God's commandments even in the exile
  • Week 4: Jonah the prophet and how he was the instrument to save the people of Nineveh
  • Capstone Activity (A skit about Moses, distribute the roles among the children who read well)

MILESTONES

  • Scripture: The children will have a good understanding of the early life of Moses, his transformation into the nation's leader and God's workings in him to free His people from bondage. Daniel the perfect young boy and God's deliverance from the den of lions, and Jonah the prophet and how God steered him to turn the people of Nineveh to repentance.
  • Spiritual: The children will learn that God started the mission for the deliverance of His people to lead them into the promised land where the Savior will be born to save us all.
  • Social: The children will learn that God's protection is present in their daily lives
  • Rituals: The children will learn how God in the Old Testament is the same one in the New Testament, always caring for His people and leading them into salvation.
