Peace

OBJECTIVE

The objective of the spirituality module is to teach the children how Christian spirituality should be implemented in their lives. Every week of this module it will focus on spirituality in different ways in their lives: Week 1 -- Repentance, Week 2 -- Confession, Week 3 -- Peace, Week 4 -- Purity. Week 5 is the capstone week to review.

INTRODUCTION - 5 Minutes

Ask the students the following questions:

  • Who here gets worried?
  • What do you worry about?
  • What are some things you DO NOT worry about?
  • Do you worry about the sun rising in the morning? How about worrying about how your heart is going to pump blood?
  • How come you don't worry about those things?
  • Do you think God wants us to worry about things?
  • What does the word peace mean to you?

HOLY SCRIPTURE - 5 Minutes

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law." (Galatians 5:22-23)

CONTENT (KEY POINTS) - 15 Minutes

Go over the Fruits of the Spirit:

  • Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-Control
  • Peace comes to us from no one and nothing other than our Lord Jesus
  • Peace is made possible for us through Christ
  • We also have to be peaceful with everyone around us
  • No matter what is happening around us we always have to stay calm and cool because we know that God is in control
  • When we remain calm during tough times, we show peace
  • A lot of times we think of peace is only getting along with people around us or even just sitting quietly, but it's really more when we have peace with God that we can feel the peace in everything else
  • Gods peace is always available to us and it's much better than any kind of peace that the world offers us
  • Peace is one of the Fruits of the Spirit and the more we abide in Jesus Christ, the more we will have that perfect peace that will come to us from God.

APPLICATION (Action) - 5 Minutes

Ask the students to memorize the following verse (abbreviate as needed given children's ability): "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." John 14: 27

CONCLUSION - 5 Minutes

Sometimes certain things that happen to us really upset us and we will act out when someone does something bad to us or says something bad to us. This week we need to all practice to stay calm during those really tough times.

ACTIVITY - 10 Minutes

Introduce a game called "Stress tag." While the kids are all sitting around, the teacher will be the "Stress Monster" and walk around waving their arms in the air in a chaotic way and yelling "stress, stress, stress." Most kids will get a little scared from how crazy this stress monster is acting. Now number off the kids 1 & 2. All the 1s will say, "I have God's peace" when the stress monster comes around. The stress monster will tag the 2s, because they are not saying, "I have God's peace". You can continue to play this game switching sides.

Remind the kids at the end of the game that no matter what kind of stressors come our way we should never be worried about anything. If we are feeling a little worried all we need to do is pause and talk to Jesus and ask Him for calmness and peace.

RESOURCES

The servant can use the image such as the following to display the Fruits of the Spirit, or another similar image.

PARENTS CORNER/HOMEWORK

Remind your kids throughout the week to pause and think about whatever is bothering them and to say a little prayer asking for peace in their hearts. Also, whenever they are faced with a stressful situation (like taking a test), remind them that when they cross themselves in faith, God will immediately help them
