Saints Module

OBJECTIVE

The objective of the saints module is to teach the children to think on a spiritual level about who is our family. God gave us a family on earth to help us understand the bonds and connections between people who love each other. God wants us to be part of His family. We are His sons and daughters when we fulfill his commandments and do the will of God, which is to love God and love each other. That means sacrificing and praying for each other,, encouraging each other to be better, covering up each other's mistakes, and helping each other. The saints loved God so much that they fulfilled His commandments in an extra-special way. Some of the saints loved God so much that they were willing to give everything for Him, including their own lives. These saints are called martyrs. Some martyrs were so strong and filled with the Holy Spirit that they were able to watch their family members be martyred before them. They were able to do this because they understood that, even if their family died on earth, the souls of their family would live forever with Jesus Christ and His entire family of saints and martyrs in heaven.

CHURCH CONNECTION

Please make every effort to incorporate our Orthodox traditions, liturgical practices, saints, and sacraments in every lesson.

PARENTS CORNER

Every lesson contains suggested material for you to send out to parents/guardians on a weekly basis. The ultimate goal is to give parents tools and resources necessary to educate their children every day, creating an Orthodox Christian home. For this module, we want to help the children select a patron saint and deepen their relationship with that saint. We also want parents to consider purchasing an icon of the patron saint and creating a prayer corner with their child. The child should be encouraged to research the saint, to visit the church of the saint, and to seek the intercession of the saint.
