Spirituality Module

OBJECTIVE

The objective of the spirituality module is to teach the children that by planting their lives in Jesus and trying to be like Him, they will develop the same characteristics as Him. These characteristics are called the Fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22, Eph 5:9). We want to make this lesson practical by showing them examples of at least one figure from the Bible who showed each of the Fruits of the Holy Spirit and then how they themselves can apply the Fruit of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control in their lives. Each week, we will be focusing on different fruits of the Holy Spirit.

Each week, help them realize how they can plant their lives in Christ - by praying, reading the Bible, taking communion, confession, etc. - and help them realize how growing closer to Christ will give them power to make better choices in school and at home. We want them to think of ways to be more loving, more peaceful, more kind, more patient, etc.

CHURCH CONNECTION

Please make every effort to incorporate our Orthodox traditions, liturgical practices, saints, and sacraments in every lesson.

PARENTS CORNER

Every lesson contains suggested material for you to send out to parents/guardians on a weekly basis. The ultimate goal is to give parents tools and resources necessary to educate their children every day, creating an Orthodox Christian home. Please direct parents to point out instances during the week when they observe the fruits of the Spirit are present or opportunities to exercise the fruit of the Spirit. This can be a game, where the parents point it out for 3 days (Mon - Wed) and the children then have the job to point it out the next 3 days (Thurs - Sat).
