Old Testament Module

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this Module is to overview a selection among the Major and Minor prophets, overview themes within the books, and present typologies of Christ and the Church throughout.

MILESTONES

  • Scripture: The students should learn and make clear connections between types and prophecies of Christ in the Old Testament to better understand the New Testament. Scripture memorized includes:
    • "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound" (Is. 61:1)
    • "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope" (Jeremiah 29:11)
    • "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh" (Ez. 36:26)
    • "But the Lord is in His holy temple. Let all the earth keep silence before Him" (Hb. 2:20)
  • Spiritual: Youth will learn the morals from the prophets as well as images of Christ and the Church that revealed in the prophetic writings
  • Social: As the prophets called the community of Jews to repent, youth will learn that we must be united with one another in our obedience to God as a community
  • Rituals: Youth will see the words of the Prophets which are read in various services in the Church such as the Prophecies of Lent and Pascha as well as symbols mentioned throughout the hymns
