Tower of Babel

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this module is to introduce the Old Testament. In kindergarten, you will go over the story of Creation, Adam and Eve, Noah and the Ark, and the Tower of Babel. This lesson will introduce the story of Tower of Babel and explain how languages were first created because of men's pride trying to be equal to God.

INTRODUCTION & HOOK - 5 Minutes

As a class do the sign of the cross together, saying aloud in one voice, "In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, One God. Amen"

Next, ask them to raise their hands if they can do this again, but in Arabic. Those that can, proceed with them in Arabic. Now repeat in Coptic. Ask the kindergarteners why we have different languages.

HOLY SCRIPTURE - 5 Minutes

Memory Verse

"Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the Lord confused the languages of all the earth..." (Genesis 11:9)

CONTENT (KEY POINTS) - 10 Minutes

Many years after the flood and Noah's ark, the world was full of people again. Everyone spoke one language. One day they decided to build a great city and a humongous tower that would reach heaven. They wanted everyone to know how amazing they were by building this gigantic tower that could be seen from anywhere. People would look at that tower and say, wow, the people who built that tower are so intelligent and worthy of praise. Ask the kindergarteners, who is worthy of our praise? Only God is worthy of praise If we are intelligent or able to do anything, it is because God made us so.

But these people did not give glory to God, they only wanted glory for themselves. So the Lord confused their languages. When they could not easily communicate with each other, they stopped building their tower and separated from each other. But God is not separated from us because of language. No matter what language we speak, God hears us and rejoices in our prayers Encourage the kindergarteners to always remember the lesson of the tower of Babel, that God deserves our praise and worship and that God hears the love in our hearts in any language.

LIFE APPLICATION - 5 Minutes

We must always try to do our best for the glory of God and not for someone to praise us. I'll give you an example, if you pray to God and ask Him to help you in your exams and then the results of the exams show you are the top of your class, you got the best score. Will you say I did it on my own, I studied hard that's why I got the best score. Or should you say thank God, He helped all the way through these exams and without Him I wouldn't be able to do it.

DISCUSSION (Challenge) - 5 Minutes

Ask the kindergarteners, how many languages they have been exposed to. How many languages can you say hello in? Or goodbye? Can you count from one to ten in a different language?

ACTIVITY - 10 Minutes

Review the story of the Tower of Babel with your child. Be sure to read the Bible with your child every day. Setting up routines to read the Bible together reinforces the importance of the Bible in our lives. During the week, you can quiz your child by naming a Bible character and asking them if they belong in the Old Testament or the New Testament. During the week, ask your child why the people built the Tower of Babel and what happened to it?
