Being Obedient

OBJECTIVE

The objective of the service module is to teach the children how to implement service in our lives. In Kindergarten, we will go over the importance of helping others and how to treat others. Help them realize how their actions are a service to those around them. Week 5 is the capstone week to review and serve together.

Being obedient is always one of the important virtues for the children to learn and yet it may be the hardest one. Children are always wanting to do what they want and not necessarily listen to their parents. Therefore, it is important to teach obedience, and it should be first to God and then it will be easy to obey the parents and the older ones.

INTRODUCTION & HOOK - 10 Minutes

Ask the children: Does anyone know what it means to obey? What do you think it is? What are some ways we can obey those around us?

Use a puppet to show the following conversation with the servant:

Servant: Hello Mason, how are you?

Puppet: I'm in trouble

S: Why?

P: My Mom asked me to pick up my toys and I told her no

S: Why did you do that?

P: I don't like to pick up my toys, I like to play only

S: But you will make your Mom upset?

P: I don't know what to do?

S: What you need to do is to listen to today's lesson it is all about being obedient

HOLY SCRIPTURE - 10 Minutes

Genesis 12

Memory Verse

"Blessed rather are those who hears the word of God and obey it" (Luke 11:28)

CONTENT (Key Points) - 10 Minutes

  • One day a long, long time ago before Jesus was born, there was a man called Abram and this man was a very good person and had a nephew called Lot. He used to live with his wife Sarai and was very happy.
  • He had many cattle, sheep, horses, camels, and many other animals.
  • He used to live in tents and did not have buildings to live inside in a place called Haran.
  • One day God asked Abram to leave his country and the place where he lives and grow up in and go to a different place.
  • God told Abram, He will bless him and his family and all his belongings and will make him a great nation.
  • God did not tell him where he should go but you know, Abram obeyed God.
  • The next day Abram took his tents, his cattle, sheep, animals, his wife, his nephew Lot and all his belongings and started to move to the place where God told him to go. We are sure Sarai and Lot asked many questions to Abram, like where are we going and why are we moving from here? This is the place we grew up in, we like this place
  • But Abram did not have any answers except saying, God told me to move out and I will obey Him
  • They all saw Abram packing and getting his animals ready to go, so all of his family obeyed him and started to pack too
  • The next day they all left Haran and went to a new city God told Abram to go to Canaan
  • Being obedient means to follow the rules set by your parents and teachers. It also means to listen when a trusted adult tells you something to do or helps you. We should also be obedient to God and follow His commandments and follow His will.
  • When we obey our parents, we are helping serve others because we are helping our parents or siblings. Sometimes our parents ask us to do things to help them, so in this way we are serving others as well.

LIFE APPLICATION - 5 Minutes

We need to listen to our parents this week and do what they tell you. Because God will be very happy with your listening.

ACTIVITY- 10 Minutes

Have the students complete the maze attached.

PARENTS CORNER

Today the children learned about obedience and we asked them to listen and do what you tell them. It would be great if you can put on a sheet of paper a sticker or even a check mark for every time your child obeys you and send us the number of times back via text. We will reward the children next time.
