Being Kind

OBJECTIVE

The objective of the service module is to teach the children how to implement service in our lives. In Kindergarten, we will go over the importance of helping others and how to treat others. Help them realize how their actions are a service to those around them. Point out how Christ saw that the disciples had toiled all night with no success and provided for them with this miracle. Week 5 is the capstone week to review and serve together.

The objective of this lesson is to teach the children to be kind to one another as Christ had compassion and was kind to the two blind men and healed them.

INTRODUCTION & HOOK - 5 Minutes

Being kind means to be nice to those around you. It means to love and help people, especially your parents and siblings. Being kind helps us serve others because we care for them.

  • Ask the children to close their eyes and keep them closed.
  • Ask them if they can see anything.
  • Ask them if it is all dark for them
  • Ask the children what it feels like when you stay for too long in the dark like this
  • Today, we will talk about some blind men and see what happened to them

HOLY SCRIPTURE - 10 Minutes

Matthew 20:29-33 - Jesus healing two blind men

Memory Verse

"Be kind to one another" (Ephesians 4:32)

CONTENT (KEY POINTS) - 10 Minutes

  • One day Jesus was walking out of a city called Jericho and many people were following him
  • As He continued to walk, two blind men were sitting by the road begging and heard a lot of noise and started asking the people around them about why there is a lot of noise
  • The people told them it is Jesus Christ coming towards us
  • They asked the crowd who is Jesus Christ and why many people are walking with Him and doing too much noise
  • The people told the two blind men, Jesus looks like He is a big prophet or even more than a prophet some people are saying He is the Christ, the son of David we have been waiting for a long time
  • The two blind men asked what Jesus is capable of doing for all these people.
  • They told them He does many miracles; he heals people from their diseases and sicknesses. He did many other miracles
  • The minute the two blind men heard about Jesus healing the sick
  • The two blind men said we want Jesus to heal us too. We will tell Him when He walks by us
  • But the people told them do not raise your voice and make trouble because we do not think Jesus will even look or hear you.
  • But the two blind men did not listen to the people; as soon as Jesus got closer to them, they cried with a loud voice calling Him and saying "Have mercy on us, O Lord, Lord the son of David"
  • Jesus stood and turned around and looked at the two blind men and asked them "What do you want me to do for you?"
  • They said to Him "Lord, that our eyes be opened"
  • Jesus looked at them and felt he wanted to help them because they did not have anyone else to help them.
  • Jesus touched their eyes and the minute He touched them, their eyes were opened and once their eyes were opened, they followed Jesus

DISCUSSION (Challenge) - 5 Minutes

Ask the children the following questions:

How can you be kind to those around you? What about those who can be mean to you?

LIFE APPLICATION (Action) - 5 Minutes

Ask the children if they have anyone in their family who is sick or not feeling well, especially your grandparents. You should ask about them over the phone and be kind to them.

ACTIVITY - 10 Minutes

Kindness Jar Activity

Have each child get an empty jar or container and a bowl of dried beans (any type like red kidney, white beans or any other small size item that could be easily counted). The child will add to his/her empty jar one bean for every act of kindness that he/she will do. Examples of Acts of kindness are like helping mom/dad/sibling, praying for someone, donating a toy/clothes..etc, helping someone in need, saying kind words to people...etc. At the end of the month or other suitable time frame, replace all those beans with jelly beans or MMs so the kids relate that their good deeds turn into something sweet (see attached Acts of Kindness worksheet to give the children ideas).

PARENTS CORNER

Our lesson today was about kindness and how to be kind to others, especially the sick and the elderly. It would be great to help contact any of the older people in your family for your child to ask about them and help them in any way.
